Hal Burton was born and raised in Seattle Washington. After graduation from the University of Washington, Mr. Burton lived for a time in Texas, Mississippi and Ohio, eventually residing in Indiana for 18 years. While in Indiana he received his Masters Degree at Indiana University.
Upon returning to the Northwest, in 1979, Mr. Burton vacationed often in the Olympic National Park where he spent considerable time in his youth. Much of the background for his first novel, Cave of Secrets, comes from his experiences hiking in the Park, a stay at the Ozette Archaeological site before it closed, and trips to the Orient.
For his second novel, The Penny Red Enigma, Mr. Burton draws from his historical knowledge of mid-nineteenth century England, travels in London and Yorkshire, his life-long passion for stamp collecting and his wife’s accounts of life in rural South Dakota.
In Voices from the Mountain, the author returns to Washington State's Olympic National Park for the setting of his tale of a young hiker and the mysterious mountain man who finds him almost dead in the back country. Deception, survival and discovery - already a highly acclaimed mystery from author Hal Burton.
Hal and his wife, Jeanette, who has designed all three novel's covers, reside near Lilliwaup Washington on Hood Canal.
